Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri on Saturday visited the ongoing works at the Aquatic and Sports Centre in Victoria, Gozo, which are now at a “very advanced stage,” with the testing of the facility to begin in March.

Once completed, the centre will be named the Gozo Indoor Sports and Aquatic Pavilion.

"We have reached the final stages of works at the Gozo Aquatic and Sports Centre, where almost all electrical work is now complete, construction is finished, we are progressing with the finishing touches, including the installation of openings,” Camilleri said.

He continued that in March, testing of the Olympic-sized swimming pool will commence. The sports complex will begin to be enjoyed by the public this year, Camilleri said.

Work on the facade of this facility will begin next month, marking the final significant milestone of the project, which is one of the largest investments and the largest sports investment ever seen in Gozo.

Camilleri said that he is looking forward to completion of the project to provide Gozitans with the best indoor sports facility in Gozo itself, as well as offering other opportunities, particularly for international and national competitions in Gozo, which also attracts sports tourism.

Architect Godwin Sultana, who is responsible for the project, explained that the works are progressing very well, and that next month, testing will begin on this facility to ensure its functionality and durability.

The Aquatic and Sports Centre covers an area of approximately 5,000 square meters and will be equipped with various high-level sports facilities, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, among others.
