Man dies in drowning at St Peter’s Pool

A man has died after drowning in the popular St Peter’s Pool in Marsaxlokk.

Police said their assistance was requested at around 1:30pm on Friday due to a person in the sea at St Peter’s Pool in Delimara in the limits of Marsaxlokk.

Preliminary investigations showed that the man, who is 69 years old and a Romanian national, had somehow fallen into the sea and found himself in difficulty.

Armed Forces of Malta members were called to the site and they lifted the man out of the sea and brought to shore at Hay Wharf in Floriana.

He was given medical assistance, but was certified as dead on site.

Duty magistrate Giannella Camilleri Busuttil is leading an inquiry while police investigations are also ongoing.
