The police questioned a 50-year-old man who was in the apartment when a firearm accidentally went off. No-one was injured.

The gunshot was heard at around 2am, but the police were only informed about the incident at noon.

Officers turned up on site and were seen entering Falcon House to continue their investations.

A police spokesperson on site told the media that police spoke to people who live in the area to confirm if they had heard a similar sound, and the time it was heard.

The police are also speaking with a 50-year old man, a resident in Sliema, to gather more information on what could have happened, the spokesman said.

The spokesperson said that a magisterial inquiry has been launched under magistrate Abigail Critien who has appointed a number of experts to assist in the investigation.
