Some 15 tonnes of waste were collected by the Cleansing and Maintenance Division in just four hours after the Saint Patrick’s Day festivities ended in St Julian’s early on Monday

Twenty-two employees of CleanMalta carried out this job all over the St Julian’s area, including Paceville, St George Road, and the surrounding shore, using two refuse vehicles, a high-pressure street washer, a water bowser, three tipper vans, and two fully electric sweepers.

These details were announced during a visit to the area in the early hours of Monday morning by the Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness, Clayton Bartolo, the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Cleanliness, Glenn Bedingfield, and the Director General of the Cleansing and Maintenance Division, Ramon Deguara.

Minister Bartolo stated that the Cleansing and Maintenance Division and its workers were well-prepared, especially through the aid of recent investments made in technological and environmental equipment. After mentioning that thousands of Maltese, Gozitans, and tourists joined these celebrations in St. Julian’s and Paceville, Bartolo also spoke about his Ministry’s commitment to keep working harder so that tourism and public cleanliness go hand-in-hand in the coming future.

Parliamentary Secretary Bedingfield thanked the hard work of the Cleansing and Maintenance Division, saying that through their dedication to clean up the locality in four hours, whoever will pass through the streets of St. Julian’s today will not even notice that there was such an activity just yesterday.

"It is crucial that the cleaning work is done after these celebrations are over, but it is equally important that all those who attend do their part to help us really take care of our country," concluded the parliamentary secretary.

Director General Deguara repeated the short timeframe this cleaning was completed before praising the excellent work of his employees, as well as their coordination with the investments made in the last months.

(The government press release said that 15,000 tonnes of waste had been generated)
