Burglaries at Ta' Ġieżu church in Valletta prompt Franciscans to ask for police and public help

The Franciscan Order in Valletta requested Police assistance on Tuesday via a Facebook post following break-ins of the niches and donation boxes of the Ta' Ġieżu Church in the last few weeks.

The Franciscans said that in the last few days, the donation box of the “Duluri” niche was broken off and stolen before being found abandoned nearby. They added that a break-in was also attempted on the church’s famous crucifix.

The Franciscans believe that whoever is damaging and stealing from the church is doing so with foresight since the church is not left unguarded during its opening hours. They added that their main concern is the damage being done and are looking into the possibility of installing CCTV cameras to ensure the safety of the Church.

They requested that whoever has any information, regarding these break-ins, speak up at the Valletta Police Station or to the Guardian F. Ramon Farrugia OFM. They added that whoever wishes to help otherwise can donate via REVOLUT or BOV Pay on 99246768.
