PN local councillor James Aaron Ellul has expressed concern over the appearance of red circles marked on trees at the Jubilee Grove in Floriana.

No explanation has been forthcmong as to why such markings have been made, with fears that these trees are set to be either heavily pruned or, worse, removed.

The grove, which is opposite Sa Maison Ferry Terminal, has been abandoned for a number of years, the councillor noted in a post on the social media.

Recently, he said that a few weeks ago, he had proposed for the Floriana Local Council to discuss the desperate situation that Jubilee Grove is unfortunately in.

In a video, Ellul also shows graffiti on the Floriana forts, further up from the trees.

He said that unlike other forts in Malta, the Floriana Lines have never undergone any type of restoration.

This is not the first time that the PN councillor is calling for action to protect this green space. Back in 2017, Ellul also presented a motion asking for an extensive revamp to turn the space into a recreational family park.

“The Jubilee Grove is a rich green space; it should be given protection to eradicate abuse and make it more accessible to the public while being left in its natural environment,” he said.
