The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has issued a Stop Works Notice on construction works that damaged an Enemalta substation in Sliema.

Enemalta officials were requested to assist in emergency works in Sliema earlier on Monday, after a substation at the Preluna hotel suffered damage caused by construction works near the substation.

As a result of the damage, a number of consumers were temporarily without electricity. Enemalta began immediately working to offer a temporary service through the use of generators.

Enemalta said that it is carrying out works so that consumers can be moved onto alternative sources and bypass the substation. Enemalta then filed a report with the police and the BCA.

The BCA said that it went on site and launched its investigation, issuing a Stop Works Notice until  the investigations conclude and the necessary action is taken.

The BCA said that it is also in contact with Enemalta to ensure third party rights are safeguarded.
