Jason Micallef would not say why Fearne not shown same support as Muscat

Valletta Culture Agency chief Jason Micallef would not say why no protest was organised in support of Chris Fearne on Wednesday, contrary to what happened on Tuesday when Joseph Muscat was arraigned in court.

Fearne, who is still deputy leader of the Labour Party, walked into court on Wednesday in an almost empty Great Siege Square, which on Tuesday was full of PL supporters expressing their solidarity with former leader Muscat.

Muscat and Fearne face different charges in court following the conclusion of the magisterial inquiry into the hospitals deal.

But it’s clear that within Labour Muscat is still held in high esteem, certainly higher than that shown to Fearne, who is still Number Two in the PL hierarchy, whereas Muscat holds no position.

Micallef was among those who urged Labour supporters to go to Valletta on Tuesday in support of Muscat, and was also in the courtroom for part of the nine-hour sitting.

Asked by journalists why a distinction had been made, and why no Labour supporters were called in to support Fearne, Micallef continued to walk and say he was going for a coffee.
