“Fehmiet u Għarfien”  -- “Opinions and Appreciations” is a new book by Alfred Sant that is being published in a limited edition under the Quinque imprint.

“Fehmiet u Għarfien” presents a selection of essays and articles in English and Maltese written by Alfred Sant during the ten years that he was a Maltese member of the European Parliament between 2014 and this year.  Many of the topics relate to European and Maltese issues that were salient in those years, some very controversial.

Among the essays that focus on the Maltese situation, one features a discussion regarding how the country’s institutions need to be modernised in order to be able to manage correctly the governance challenges that they face. Another essay reviews whether Gozo has lost the specific characteristics that in the past made it a different place from Malta.

A section of the book covers Alfred Sant’s recall of Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici and Eddie Fenech Adami and the assessment he makes of their record. The back cover of “Opinions and Appreciations” warns that “readers will not agree with all that this book has to say”.

“Fehmiet u Għarfien” carries on with the series of books Sant has published over the years that deal with contemporary affairs in Malta and abroad. The last in line were the three books “Malta and the euro” which analysed the 2008-2012 euro crisis and its after effects, not least on Malta. Although they dealt with subjects which can hardly be considered popular, they are no longer in stock.

“Fehmiet u Għarfien” is on sale from the Quinque website and from leading booksellers for the price of €15.
