PN says AG should publish 17 Black inquiry ‘without delay’

Tuesday, 4 June 2024, 16:25 Last update: about 13 months ago

The Nationalist Party, in a statement, said that the 17 Black inquiry should be published by the Attorney General without delay, so that the people could see it.

Earlier on Tuesday, lawyer Jason Azzopardi said that another major magisterial inquiry, which encapsulates three inquiries into one, has been concluded. In a post on his Facebook page, Azzopardi said that he had initiated the inquiry on behalf of PN MEP David Casa, NGO Repubblika, and former PN Leader Simon Busuttil five years ago.

The statement, signed by PN MP Karol Aquilina, said that it expects the AG and the Police Commissioner not to look at faces and publicly declare that they are making the Magistrate's conclusions their own.

"The AG and the Police Commissioner have a duty, and the responsibility towards the Maltese people to dedicate all the human and financial resources needed so that in the shortest time possible they act according to the inquiry's conclusions and arraign in court those people, whoever they are, behind the company 17 Black and what was revealed in the Panama Papers."

The AG and Police Commissioner are being held responsible if this inquiry reports ends up in the hands of Prime Minister Robert Abela abusively and illegally so that, as happened in the Vitals inquiry, he would be able to make public statements through which he tried to dictate and influence the judicial process for his political advantage."

"The PN reminds that the magisterial inquiry into 17 Black and the Panama Papers started years ago on its initiative under the leadership of former PN Leader Simon Busuttil, and on the initiative of MEP David Casa and that of Repubblika, through the help of Jason Azzopardi."
