While voters are free to do what they want with their vote, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said that "every vote that does not go to a Nationalist Party candidate will only help him (Prime Minister Robert Abela) and the political mafia that clings to him."
Addressing supporters on Thursday on the last day of the campaign for the European Parliament and local council elections, Grech said that voting for small parties and independent candidates is an experiment, and that experiments should be discouraged given that "these are not normal times" for Malta.
"I know that there are many people who would like to feel comfortable voting for small parties or independent candidates. But these are not normal times, these are not times for experiments," he said.
Grech said that the PN does not play any games when it comes to the future of Maltese families "as you always know where you stand with us". With reference to the Labour Party he said that instead of lies and silence, people want freedom, liberty, and truth, and competence instead of partisanship.

"Our country is at a crossroads with a government that doesn't know where it comes from, let alone where its going. Therefore, it is necessary to make a firm choice. Choose those who deliver results. Those who have always been there for you. The Nationalist Party", he said.
He said that the Labour government is in a fierce internal struggle "that threatens the stability of the country."
"It seems deliberate; Labour governments always lead us to a crossroads," he said.
Grech said that the government does not understand the citizen who is suffering the consequences of the high cost of living or the continuous daily traffic congestion.
"It (the government) doesn't understand you, because for them, everything is going smoothly, and they want a big mandate so they don't have to understand you," he said.
He said that it was the PN who gave the hospitals back to the citizens after a court battle.
Grech is urging voters to vote for all PN candidates. He said that unlike previous elections, there are thousands who have not yet decided whether they are going to vote and if so to whom.
"I respect every decision", he said, adding that this is what democracy is all about.
He said that the PN wants to earn the vote and not buy it, which might also be a reference to the recently distributed Tax refund cheques and other schemes issued by government.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also addressed the activity.
She said that five years ago, the nation believed in her and voted her in parliament.
"I have transformed this trust into work for the benefit of the Maltese and Gozitans. And our European partners trusted us. They trusted me and David Casa to be part of the leadership of a European institution together," she said.
Metsola recounted all the good work done by herself and PN MEP David Casa along the last five years and said that the PN can do more good if the PN wins three seats in parliament.
"I have come here before you to ask for your trust once again. I am not standing before you only as President. I am here as one of you, as a mother of four children, as a woman who wants to see a better country for all of us," she said.
She said that every vote matters and "not to trust" those who say that she as PN MEP does not need any votes, because "every vote matters".
She explained that no vote is lost as every "extra one" is passed onto other candidates.
The President of the European Parliament took the opportunity to thank every citizen who welcomed her into their homes during this political campaign.
