The Malta Police Force has issued a right of reply to an editorial published in this newspaper on Monday.
Read the full Right of Reply below:
Reference is hereby being made to the editorial published on The Malta Independent titled “The elusive Police Commissioner” published on the 24th June 2024.
As per Article 15 of Chapter 579 of the Laws of Malta, please find a reply from the Malta Police Force to the said articles.
This reply “shall be published as a separate article and without being interpolated with any comments or other material that does not form part of the reply, with appropriate prominence as the publication in respect of which the right of reply is exercised and it shall not be lawful to shorten or edit the reply in such a manner as to prejudice the effective exercise of the right of reply under this article.” As per Article 15 (2) of Chapter 579 of the Laws of Malta.
With reference to the mentioned editorial, the Malta Police Force would like to clarify that contrary to the claim that Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà is elusive and avoids media scrutiny, the Commissioner has consistently been available for media inquiries. For instance, in February, the Malta Independent requested an interview with the Commissioner. The Malta Police Force promptly agreed, but no further response was received from the Malta Independent.
Editorial Note
The email from the police was regrettably missed and we intend to resubmit the request for interview but the point that the press is not being invited to events was not denied.
