A fire that broke out at the Preluna Hotel in Sliema at, around 10am on Monday, gave off plumes of smoke raised local alarm, however it was quickly extinguished by nearby workers with no injuries reported.
No casualties have so far been reported following sightings of smoke coming at 09:45 from a hotel in Triq it-Torri, though whether any individuals need any medical attention is still unclear.
The fire, now extinguished, is currently suspected to have been caused by a short circuit on the third floor of the hotel.
Guests were evacuated from the hotel, but allowed back in at around 11:15am.
A police spokesperson told The Malta Independent that the fire occurred in an area of the hotel that was under refurbishment and whilst devoid of tourists, had workers present.
He said that the workers themselves put the fire out, however the Civil Protection Department, police and an ambulance were swiftly onsite and closed roads while inspecting for any remaining danger as well as medically examining the workers who were in the area.
