A 10-year-old boy was critically injured this afternoon when he was caught between two pieces of machinery, the police said.

The accident took place in a field in the limits of Ghasri, in Gozo, at 12.30pm.

The boy was first taken to Gozo General Hospital where he was certified to be seriously injured. He was later transported to Mater Dei Hospital by helicopter.

Magistrate Brigitte Sultana is leading an inquiry.

Investigations are being carried out by the police and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority.
