LESA and its CEO Svetlick Flores, in a statement on Friday, have categorically denied the allegations brought forward by Jason Azzopardi regarding an alleged multi-million euro racket involving top LESA officials transferring Maltese drivers' penalty points onto rental cars used by tourists.

The agency said that it processes every request after a number of checks are carried out. It continued that the transfer of points from one driver to another only happens after a declaration is signed by the owner of the vehicle and the driver who was using it when the offence in question took place. It added that this declaration is to be provided to the agency either physically or through an online system.

LESA said that whenever there is suspicion of any abuse by the person making the document, it is requested that a police report be made. It added that this is to take any necessary action according to the law and that it all remains documented in the agency's systems.

LESA said that the agency maintains that no form of abuse or actions that undermine its integrity will be tolerated. "So much so, that during the last few years, the agency has invested and taken several actions, including legal ones that include garnishee order mandates against various persons and companies in order to collect due payments, as well as suspending the facility of contracts of payments to those persons or companies that operate in the field of rental vehicles, in order to ensure that the payments are immediate."

The agency concluded that the payment of any contravention remains the absolute responsibility of the owner of the vehicle and that the road license of the involved vehicle will not be renewed by the Transport Authority in the case that such payment is not made. It added that LESA is ready to fully collaborate in any investigation.
