A record sum of €202,316 was collected in a 12-hour marathon held on Sunday, 1 September in aid of Moviment Ġesù fil-Proxxmu.

The marathon was held on the Maltese television stations TVM, Net, ONE, and Xejk, a statement issued by Moviment Missjunarju Ġesu fil-Proxxmu said.

The marathon was part of a fundraising campaign to help the movement support missions in Ethiopia, Brazil, and Kenya.

During this year's marathon, films were shown that were taken a few weeks ago when Fr. Alex Cauchi, the Director of Moviment Ġesù fil-Proxxmu, together with Fabian Demicoli and Aaron Attard visited the work being done in Ethiopia and experienced the reality of poverty there.

The statement read that they encountered a major problem with malaria, which is currently affecting the lives of many people in a widespread and deadly outbreak in Ethiopia.

Fr. Cauchi said he felt moved about the record sum collected and that this money will continue to help those most in need and where there is the most urgency.

Cauchi noted that donations continued to come in up until Monday morning while thanking all the Maltese and Gozitan people.
