Part of the Gozo General Hospital, namely its emergency department, was evacuated Wednesday morning after someone smelled smoke.
A police spokesperson told The Malta Independent that at around 8am, there was smoke emerging from the emergency department, but it was not a fire.
As per procedure, the hospital informed the Civil Protection Department and evacuated that part of the hospital, the spokesperson said.
The smoke seemed to have been caused by some sort of machinery which overheated and melted, the police said. CPD officials controlled the smoke and cleared the area as safe for patients to re-enter.
The police spokesperson said that there were no injuries in this incident.
