The Labour Government has no idea how it will start solving the major problems it has created in the healthcare sector, the Nationalist Party said Thursday.
It is so backed into a corner and without vision that it isn't even supporting its own proposals from a year ago, the PN, through health spokesman Adrian Delia, said.
In recent days, Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela said that the Health Hub in the North is no longer a priority for the Government and that those from the North can use Gozo if they wish.
This is how this Government treats patients, Delia said.
Meanwhile, those from the North aren't being served in their area, nor are those from the South, as the Paola Hub, announced eight years ago, still hasn't opened, three years after it was supposed to start welcoming patients.
But instead of trying to solve these and other problems, the Government is wasting time on trivial attacks against the Opposition, attempting to suggest that the PN at some point placed the blame on healthcare workers for all of this.
The PN has always been at the forefront of praising and appreciating the great efforts made by each and every one of our healthcare workers. It is these workers who are sustaining this sector and doing everything in their power to serve patients despite the significant shortcomings resulting from the Government's incompetence, Delia said.
The Government lashes out because it doesn't know where to start, but this is not how politics should be done. The PN continues to extend a hand of friendship and offer its help.
The first thing that needs to happen is for the Government to admit it has a problem. Then we can begin working together to solve it, first and foremost for the benefit of the Maltese patient, Delia said.
