An Albanian man suffered serious injuries in a workplace accident at a construction site in Mqabba on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said in a statement that the incident happened at around 12:30pm in a site in Sqaq tax-Xaghri L-Imqalleb in the limits of Mqabba.

The victim is a 41-year-old Albanian man who lives in Siggiewi, and police said that he was injured while carrying out some unspecified work.

He was treated by colleagues at the site who also took him to Mater Dei Hospital, which is where he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici is leading an inquiry, while the police and Occupational Health & Safety Authority are also leading their own investigations.
