Following the completion of the Pietà promenade regeneration, the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) will begin a new project at Marina Garden in the coming weeks.

The announcement was made by the Minister for the Environment, Energy, and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, Miriam Dalli and GHRC CEO Gino Cauchi during a visit to the Pietà promenade. GHRC led a nearly one-kilometre regeneration project, creating a safer, more accessible space for cyclists and pedestrians.

The enhancements to the promenade have created a more scenic environment. They include repaved walkways, new lighting, galvanized railings, an irrigation system, and 500 pistachio plants added to complement the existing trees. New benches and waste bins were also installed, providing residents and visitors a continuous pathway along Marsamxett.

Minister Miriam Dalli commented, “Our efforts to revitalize this area wouldn't be complete without investing in Marina Garden. Through the GHRC, we will renew an area of about 4,400 square meters, adding new pathways, restoring the fountain, and adding features like benches and lighting. This is the fresh breath of life we bring to these spaces.”

“Our actions show that open spaces and the community’s well-being are our priorities. We are regenerating urban areas and investing in sustainable projects that improve people’s quality of life as we work toward becoming a quality nation,” concluded Minister Dalli.

GHRC CEO Gino Cauchi expressed satisfaction with the promenade’s completion. “The Pietà project is another one in a series of projects by GHRC to reclaim and revitalize public spaces, further enhancing the Marsamxett Harbour area. We are committed to continuing high-quality infrastructure projects.”

The Marina Garden project will add a new 210-meter greenway for cyclists and joggers. The work will be done with respect to the area’s historical and cultural heritage, ensuring that current parking spaces remain unaffected.

This initiative is part of a series of open space projects being carried out by the Ministry for the Environment through its various entities across the country.

Representatives from the Pietà Local Council were also present.
