The Palm Court Lounge at The Phoenicia Malta will host the exhibition Home is where the heart is throughout December 2024. Two Maltese artists - Kenneth Zammit Tabona and Mariam De Giorgio - have joined forces to present a series of watercolour and acrylic paintings that invite viewers into the variegated charm of Maltese interiors.

This exhibition, set in one of Malta's most iconic hotels, celebrates the warmth of Maltese heritage, the family and pets, friendships, hosting as well as Christmas traditions such as 'imbuljuta tal-qastan'. Zammit Tabona, known for his evocative watercolours, uses a delicate yet vibrant palette to capture intimate scenes with touches of bold colours that emphasize intricate details like traditional tiles, ornate furniture, and still-life elements. His works exude refinement, creating inviting spaces that resonate with timeless elegance.

Zammit Tabona's paintings often reflect his passion for Maltese heritage, showcasing detailed renditions of local architecture and interiors. His contributions to Home is where the heart is convey a graceful sensitivity and celebrate the essence of Maltese culture through carefully crafted depictions.

Mariam DeGiorgio, a skilled acrylic painter and illustrator, complements this exhibition with her bold, calligraphic style. Her use of vibrant colours and dynamic brushstrokes capture the heart of Maltese homes with striking energy. De Giorgio's works radiate warmth and movement, interpreting traditional interiors with a modern flair that invites viewers to see familiar spaces in a new light.

Her art often explores themes tied to Maltese identity, filled with household elements and scenes of joyous gatherings. For this exhibition, De Giorgio's pieces evoke the spirit of Christmas, drawing from personal moments with friends and family, including a lively Christmas Eve dinner. The paintings create a sense of belonging and tradition, blending nostalgia with contemporary elements.

Zammit Tabona's watercolours bring a fluid delicacy, portraying familiar interiors with intricate still lifes and whimsical details like black and white cats. In contrast, De Giorgio's acrylics depict bustling courtyards, playful children, and familial warmth, emphasizing life's shared moments. Holiday-themed works weave seasonal cheer into the exhibition, offering a Maltese take on Christmas festivities.

Home is where the heart is, curated by Prof. Charlene Vella, promises to celebrate the joy and intimacy of the festive season.
