The Minister is fully aware of what is happening in the Maritime Enforcement Section within Transport Malta, yet he remains silent and takes no action, PN MP Ivan Castillo has said on social media.
He was reacting to Transport Malta's statements yesterday following a press statement by the PN.
The PN MP published a copy of the evaluation of the expression of interest for the leasing of three RHIBs (dinghies). "This clearly shows who was awarded the €94,000 contract for just two months. Instead of wasting time attacking me and the PN for revealing the reckless squandering of public taxes even in this sector, we remind Minister Bonett that he has still not: Taken any action on the Auditor General's report (NAO); Taken any action on the maritime contraventions scandal; Taken any action on the case where maritime officials were ordered to testify under oath; Clarified the leasing of three RHIBs for two months, with a total cost of €94,000 to the taxpayer.
"The Minister's incompetence in allowing all this to happen under his nose, while doing nothing-even as these cases are under police investigation-speaks volumes. Either he is unaware of what is happening, or worse, he is accepting and protecting them. What is holding the Minister back from taking the necessary steps against those involved?"
The Nationalist Party will continue to work in favour of the maritime sector and all those involved in it, Castillo said. "However, we will not allow anyone to cause enormous harm to this sector due to a lack of action. We will continue to ensure that the good work done by many honest and dedicated people under different administrations is not lost."
He also said that the two RHIBs currently in use by the Maritime Enforcement Section of Transport Malta are out of order.
