Prime Minister Robert Abela is "basically proposing extending impunity from corrupt politicians to servile civil servants who, in their personal capacity, are cheating the country", independent candidate Arnold Cassola said Monday.

As Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat had allowed people like Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi free rein. Then, over the past 5 years Robert Abela has done his utmost to ensure the impunity of the above mentioned politicians.

Now Abela is going a step further in trying to hinder the citizens' rights to hold elected officials and civil servants accountable for their actions.

This is unacceptable, Cassola said, and a threat to democracy.
