The Nationalist Party believes that Malta has the necessary capabilities to be at the forefront of international efforts for peace, it said in a statement.
"As Maltese, we have always made a valuable contribution in international matters, as we did recently when we led the resolution on the Middle East and brought to the discussion table the dangers of rising sea levels resulting from climate change."
During the annual New Year exchange of greetings with Ambassadors and other members of the Diplomatic Corps serving in our country - an event held at the PN HQ - PN Leader Bernard Grech spoke about the role Malta plays on the international stage.
Reflecting on 2024, Bernard Grech remarked that it was another year of hard work for the PN, "which yielded positive results, including in the European Parliament elections, where the PN secured the highest number of votes since these elections have been held in Malta. The PN also reclaimed six local councils in the Local Council elections."
He also recalled how Roberta Metsola, an MEP from the PN, was reconfirmed as President of the European Parliament for a second term, "continuing her important work to strengthen the European Union and bring the European Parliament ever closer to EU citizens."
The PN Leader spoke of the importance of remaining vigilant about developments in neighbouring countries, including the crisis in Gaza and Lebanon, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and what path Syria will take following the fall of the Assad regime last October.
"He also extended his good wishes to Donald Trump, who in a few days' time will take over the Presidency of the United States, and expressed his anticipation of further strengthening the already good bilateral relations with the United States."
Bernard Grech concluded by wishing the Ambassadors present a productive year and further improvements in relations between countries, for the benefit of all peoples.
