Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said that while the PL invites people to fight, the PN invites people to hope, urging the public to choose a Nationalist government.
Grech spoke at a political event on Sunday, along with PN spokesperson for Health Adrian Delia and new candidate on the PN’s ticket Marilena Gauci.
Grech’s words were a dig at Prime Minister Robert Abela after he allegedly challenged PN MP Karol Aquilina to a fight outside Parliament, during a heated parliamentary session this past week. Abela and the Labour Party have both denied that this happened.
He said that Abela’s shortcomings only lead to the suffering of the Maltese and Gozitan people, regardless of the sector, mentioning the economy and health as examples.
Grech said that the only party capable of leading the country to a rebirth is the Nationalist Party.
“If you want common sense to prevail, you have one choice, the Nationalist Party,” Grech said.
"The people have a choice. Do they want a government of delays, focused on fighting and arguing, or do they want a government where we can be at ease, free from hidden conspiracies, and free to decide for you?” Grech said.
He said that a Nationalist Government will make decisions in the people’s interest and will be a government focused on achieving peoples’ goals.
Grech said that the Nationalist Party continues to believe in the hard work of the Maltese and Gozitan people.
He reminded people of the many promises made by the Labour Government year after year, that have never been fulfilled.
“Where your interests are concerned, there are delays, but where their interests are concerned, things happen immediately,” Grech said, referring also to the changes to the magisterial inquiry law, which has been expedited by government.
The Opposition Leader said it is evident that that the Prime Minister either never leads the country to its goals or, if he does, does so far too late, as Abela is preoccupied with partisan attacks.
He continued that the PN creates a policy with a plan that covers every sector.
“What we promise, we deliver. We will invest your money back into you for a reality that, together, with determination and dedication, we can create,” Grech said.
In his speech, Delia first addressed the matter in which independent MP Clayton Bartolo asked the Standards Commissioner to investigate him over parliamentary questions, to which he said that he will continue making PQs and asking government about all matters relevant.
He said that in 2013, the country was promised that the sun had risen, as “apparently we were living in total darkness before.”
Yet, promises of making the largest investments for the three hospitals went unfulfilled, and the public lost the money and investment in healthcare.
Delia said that workers at Karin Grech hospital have sent him photos of parts of the ceiling collapsing, St Luke’s has been left abandoned, and the hospital in Gozo left unopened and unused.
He said that instead of sitting at the table with doctors and their union to discuss the ongoing directives, Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela proceeded to attack them in his Parliament adjournment speech.
“There is one guarantee the PN can give. We will never betray, rob or fraud you, and we promise to make massive investments in primary healthcare centres, the Gozo hospital, as well as build a new general hospital in the country,” Delia said.
He said that those who created the problem cannot be the ones to solve it, and the PN can return the country back to normality.
