An employee of the Local Enforcement System Agency (LESA) has been suspended after allegedly asking for a bribe during the course of his duties.

In a statement, LESA said it had received information that one of its employees was allegedly breaching the agency's regulations and had asked for €50 from another person.

The agency did not give any more details about the case, which it said has been passed on to the police for further investigation.

LESA said that, after making its own internal investigation, it had provided evidence it had gathered to the police.

LESA said it does not tolerate abuse.
