The China-Malta Culture and Sports Exchange Promotion Association held a Chinese New Year event - the "Malta Chinese New Year Gala" - on January 31, 2025, to celebrate the first Chinese New Year after the Spring Festival's UNESCO heritage application, the association said.

"The event aimed to promote Chinese traditional culture and showcased the unique charm of the Chinese New Year." It was held in the banquet hall on the second floor of the St. Julian's Band Club, overlooking the bay.

"Before the event, the organizers hung a 10-meter-long 'Happy Chinese New Year' banner at the venue, and red lights were illuminated outside the venue, spreading a strong Chinese New Year vibe to the local residents. The gala featured a variety of activities designed to promote friendship and cultural exchange between the peoples of China and Malta. The participants actively engaged in activities such as the 'Red Envelope Giveaway,' singing Spring Festival Gala songs, and the 'Children's Artwork for the Spring Festival • Inheriting and Promoting Chinese New Year' segment."

Peng Yijun, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Malta and the Mayor of St. Julian's, Guido Dalli, sent their New Year greetings at the event.  At the gala, Chinese children presented auspicious messages, offering their New Year blessings.

"This Chinese New Year Gala not only promoted friendship between the peoples of China and Malta but also deepened cultural exchanges and created a good platform for business interactions between the two countries, expanding networks."

Zhang Da, President of the China-Malta Culture and Sports Exchange Promotion Association, said that the "Malta Chinese New Year Gala was not only a successful practice of China-Malta cultural exchange but also brought an unforgettable Chinese New Year experience to the people of Malta."
