The government on Thursday announced details related to the State funeral for Dun Victor Grech, who died on Wednesday after years of working for the community, particularly in the fight against drug abuse.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Mgr Charles Scicluna at St John's Co-Cathedral at 10.30am.

On Friday, a funeral cortege will leave Mater Dei Hospital for the San Blas Therapuetic Centre, limits of Zebbug. People wanting to pay tribute to Mgr Grech may do so at San Blas on Friday between 10.30am and 1pm, and 3pm to 6pm. They may also sign a book of condolences.

On Saturday, the cortege will leave San Blas at 9.15am, arriving at Tal-Ibrag parish church at 9.40am. Mgr Grech served in Tal-Ibrag, where he was a resident, for many years. The cortege will then make its way to Valletta, where the funeral Mass will be held in the presence of the President, Myriam Spiteri Debono, and Prime Minister Riobert Abela.

After Mass, the funeral will continue privately.
