On Sunday the Nationalist Party awoke with a spring in its rank and file.
Usually MaltaToday begins the month by announcing the results of its survey of voters.
This time it changed and gave us the results of an opinion survey focused solely on Gozo.
The survey results said that a majority of voters in Gozo now support the PN.
This is a reversal of the last election in 2022.
One must remember there are no less than three ministers in the Cabinet all coming from Gozo. The Minister for Gozo, (with hunting and planning added); the Minister for Agriculture and the Minister for Health.
Presumably with the power they have one would have expected that support for the government would have increased. Instead, according to the survey, it has decreased quite sensibly.
The government as a whole and the three ministers in particular must be doing something very wrong.
Instantly the whole atmosphere changed - there was a new spirit in the speeches made at the Sunday morning political event, which happened to be held in Gozo.
What I am saying doesn't even begin to describe the renewed atmosphere of the rank and file.
Some even persuaded themselves and the others that there will be an early election. No doubt the message will have been relayed and amplified down at street level.
One must insert a note of caution here. One survey result does not signify an election victory.
There is a danger as I see it of candidates going off and shooting from the hip on whatever attracts their attention without thinking about the consequences. That's how strategic mistakes are made.
The other side, the government side, has some strategic thinkers but is now swamped in a sea of corruption that is now drowning it.
Unfortunately, the PN leadership is too weak and seems to have many hidden hands on the tiller. Some, if not all, seem to belong to those who were roundly defeated in 2013 and who are still calling the shots.
Whatever I'm saying here, it may still happen that PN finds itself in a majority, but unless some clear thinking was being done it will find itself committing the same mistakes as Joseph Muscat and Robert Abela have been doing.
The two parties are still too much mirror images of each other.
There is still a steep cliff to climb.
Love between cousins
This week the Finance Committee of the US Senate voted along party lines to approve Robert Kennedy as the new Secretary for Health. This will be approved by the whole Senate later on.
Just before the vote each Senator received a letter and a video from Caroline Kennedy urging them not to approve him.
RFK is the son of Bobby Kennedy who was assassinated and Caroline is the daughter of President JF Kennedy who was also assassinated. The two are thus cousins.
For the Americans the Kennedy family is like what the Royal Family is to the British.
We might remember Caroline as a small girl playing in the Oval Office while her father dealt with issues of war and peace.
Caroline was also the subject of Neil Diamond's song Sweet Caroline.
She was also the daughter of Jacqueline Kennedy who later married Aristotle Onassis. Her brother died in a plane crash some years ago.
RFK was still a Democrat till a short time ago when he unsuccessfully contested to become President. Then he switched over to Trump who has appointed him Secretary for Health.
In her letter, Caroline alleged he is a predator and revealed he introduced his brothers to drugs from his basement garage. She also alleged he used to kill mice and other animals to feed his pets birds of prey.
The letter caused a sensation in the US but does not seem to have influenced the Senators.
Nor were they swayed by RFK's well-known anti-jab belief.
What may have decided them was his commitment to shake up the entire health sector from under the hands of the pharmaceutical industry.
Caroline was described as a bird of prey with sharpened talons for her attack on her cousin, an attack that failed.
