Two people were arrested by police over the weekend in separate drug busts, and are expected to face charges in court on Sunday morning.
In the first case, a 25-year-old man from Bosnia & Herzegovina was arrested as he arrived at the Malta International Airport. Police said that the man arrived in Malta on a flight from Barcelona, in Spain, and was acting suspiciously as routine inspections were done on different passengers.
His behaviour was noted and a search in his suitcase with the assistance of Customs officials resulted in the finding of seven packets which contained around 8 kilogrammes of what is suspected to be cannabis.
In the second case, a 33-year-old man from Jordan was arrested after police said that he had turned his residence into a place where the drug GHB and other synthetic substances could be manufactured.
Police said that they had confiscated a suspicious package which arrived at the man’s address in Mgarr by post. Police added that several packets of a white substance suspected to be cocaine were also found at the men’s residence.
They were set to be charged before Magistrate Jean Paul Grech.
