A project to renovate Gzira's public library has been completed by workers from the Local Government Division, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government stated.
The Secretariat said that the project saw the library become a more modern and accessible one, as it added that the library, which is located within the Gzira primary school, is used by school children as well as other residents even from outside the locality.
It stated that the new library was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli and Gzira Mayor Neville Chetcuti, who thanked the RSSL workers who fall under the Local Government Division for their work throughout the project.
Zerafa Civelli recognised the contribution of the workers in renovating the library as well as other projects requested by Local Councils. She said that such projects, including those of open spaces and cultural projects, are aimed at continuing to improve the lives of residents. She commented that the renovation of the library is testimony to the government's commitment to continuing the maintenance of existing projects both through schemes issued by the Local Government Division as well as through direct assistance to Local Councils through the workers engaged with the division.
Mayor Chetcuti said that through the help from the Local Government Division, the Gzira Local Council is continuing to carry out more projects for the benefit of residents. He added that despite the fact that Gzira had its own library like any other locality, the Local Council took the decision to give the children a nicer and more equipped library as it believed that the library was not equipped enough for the students and local children.
