Gzira United scored a late winner Saturday in the derby against Sliema Wanderers to earn three precious points and move to a healthier position in the table.

It was a surprising Saturday with Birkirkara stunned by bottom of the table side Naxxar Lions, Hibernians humiliated by Zabbar St Patrick, and then in the last match, Sliema suffered this unexpected setback against the Maroons.

It was an interesting affair be‐ tween these two sides with many scoring opportunities.

The all important winner was scored on 83 minutes when Aldama crossed from the left and Faysal Hassany managed to squeeze the ball home from close range.

Sliema tried to stage a late rally to save the game but the Maroons defended well to earn three precious points.

The results could be a golden opportunity for Floriana and Hamrun to break away.
