Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, is delighted to present an enchanting lunchtime concert at the historic Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta. This special performance will feature emerging soprano Marisa Galea, accompanied by the distinguished pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa.  This recital takes place on Tuesday 25 February 2025 at 12:30pm.

Music Beyond Borders is a recital focusing on unity and brotherhood through music as the recital takes us across the borders of different countries. The concert opens with the poignant Son pochi fiori from Pietro Mascagni's L'Amico Fritz, an aria filled with tenderness and longing. Then this will be followed by Francesco Paolo Tosti's Tristezza, a delicate yet melancholic piece. Mascagni returns with La tua stella, a lesser known but exquisitely expressive work, brimming with heartfelt emotion.

A shift in mood follows as pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa takes centre stage with a performance of Aram Khachaturian's Spartacus Love Theme.  The recital then moves to another striking work by Mascagni, Ah! Il suo nome... Flammen, perdonami from Lodoletta, an aria suffused with dramatic intensity and despair.

The programme continues with the sacred and timeless elegance of Franz Schubert's Ave Maria, a piece revered for its sublime melody and spiritual depth. This is followed by the commanding presence of Richard Wagner's Sailor's Chorus from "The Flying Dutchman", performed as a piano solo, conjuring the majesty and mystery of the opera. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Deh vieni non tardar from "Le Nozze di Figaro" introduces an air of playfulness and charm. Edvard Grieg's haunting Solveig's Song then transports the audience to the melancholic landscapes of "Peer Gynt", its melody resonating with longing and nostalgia.

Bringing the recital to a dazzling close is Giuseppe Verdi's Sul fil d'un soffio etesio from "Falstaff", a virtuosic and lively piece that highlights the lightness and brilliance of the soprano's voice.
