The Nationalist Party called on the gobvernment to offer more assistance to individuals who suffer from rare diseases.

Today marks World Rare Disease Day, which raises awareness about the different realities faced by many people in the world, the PN said.

Every disease has its challenges. The rarer the disease, the more difficult it is to provide complete care to these people and therefore, more research is needed so that these people and their families can live as normal a life as possible. It is essential that we continue to invest in research to find new and innovative treatments that alleviate suffering and improve the quality of life of these people.

Patients and their relatives will need support that goes beyond the treatment required for the disease, including support that may be greater than the treatment itself, such as mental health support. For example, we must ensure that patients have equal access to psychological help. In the case of rare diseases, the first challenge is that patients and their relatives accept the new reality of a disease that little is known about and for which a greater effort must be made to treat, if it exists.

This is a difficult step and one that brings with it worries and concerns, so much so that it often also leads to much greater stress than so-called "common" diseases. Therefore, we must ensure that the voice of these people and their relatives is heard, while they have all the support they need.

The PN called on the Government to strengthen specific and individual assistance for each patient with a rare disease, while collaborating with international organizations to promote best practices, although these are not common.

To this end, the PN believes that all those affected by a rare disease should, to the extent possible, be given the treatment directly given for the disease and also the psychological support they may need. In addition, the Partit Nazzjonalista also commits itself to continuing to create the greatest possible awareness so that no one feels abandoned, while promising to continue to do its utmost so that every treatment that exists is provided and every affected person can live their life with the greatest possible dignity.

Finally, the PN thanks everyone involved in this sector: workers, volunteers and organizations for their tireless work to make a difference in the lives of these people. Thank you also to the relatives of the patients for their support. Together, we can create a future where every person, regardless of their condition, has the opportunity to live a full and fulfilling life.
