A small fire in the Parliament building in Valletta was quickly put out by members of the Civil Protection Department, the police said.

The fire broke out in the early afternoon on Tuesday. It is believed that it was caused by a short circuit in the computer servers room.

The building was evacuated, a spokesman for the police said, but the situation was brought under control quickly.

Parliament is not meeting today, the last day of Carnival.

It will be back in session tomorrow.
