Bernard Grech invites people to join PN’s Sunday protest, says ‘government has failed us’

Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech has appealed once again for people to join its protest on Sunday at 3pm, in front of the Parliament building in Valletta, arguing that "the government has failed us."

Grech spoke on NET FM on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the incumbent government's pitfalls and some of PN's proposals to better the country.

The Opposition leader called on listeners to fulfil their duty as active citizens and be present during PN's protest on Sunday afternoon. He said that the protest should last between one hour and one hour and a half.

"It cannot be that a group of people has taken control of the country and caused damage," Grech argued.

Bernard Grech described that the governing Labour Party continues to damage the Maltese islands as it governs - both through worsening national reputation and by "failing" several sectors, he said.

Grech commented that through these failings, many Maltese youth wish to emigrate out of the Maltese islands and seek greener pastures abroad.

As a result, he hopes that many people can join the Nationalist Party to "spread a message of change."

Listing some government failings in his view, Grech noted that the government has failed to address the rising cost of living; "has no economic direction;" has failed to provide citizens with dignified health services; has failed within the education sector; is not upgrading local infrastructure to timely keep up with the increasing population; and as recent events have outlined, has failed to ensure national security.

He added that the government's shortcomings can be observed during everyday life, including when parents simply drive their children around and get stuck in traffic, irrespective of the time of day.

In reference to all these pitfalls, Grech said that the legislators in government are not implementing the solutions to the country's issues. In his eyes, this is either because the government is "tired" or because it is "being controlled."

Grech thus stated that the country requires a PN government in charge. He argued that major issues have sustained themselves as the Labour Party remained in power, even when ministers, and even the Prime Minister, were swapped for different faces.

Grech condemned Prime Minister Robert Abela for his inaction against Interior Minister Byron Camilleri amidst all the major downfalls observed in the country under his watch, such as the falsification of ID cards, the 14 prison suicides, and the 226kg cannabis theft from an AFM compound.

"We are talking about an issue of national security, and yet Robert Abela acts like nothing new is happening," Grech said while referencing the recent drug theft.

The Opposition leader pledged that if the Nationalist Party is entrusted to govern, the elected PN government will motivate "economic transformation" and implement all its proposals to address the cost of living crisis within its first year in power.

Such proposals include reforming the country's economic model in a manner that promotes family time and by strengthening quality of life without further straining the private sector.

Grech pledged to provide people with better pay and pensions, more clean investment around the country, more investment into major sectors like energy, the environment, roads, and the health sector, and promised to increase parental leave across the board.

He also said that the government will never prioritise addressing issues related to population increases until the basis of Malta's economic model changes.
