A record of 5,529 medical interventions was carried out at the Gozo General Hospital in 2024, seeing an increase of 14% over the year of 2023, Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela said.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Ministry said that the percentage increase compares well with the increase in the number of interventions and operations that have been carried out at Mater Dei Hospital during that same period.
Minister Joe Etienne Abela stated that the increase is due to increased investment in human resources, including Gozitan nurses, doctors, midwives, and radiographers. He also highlighted the increase in the number of specialist surgeons to 15.
"The government is determined to offer more medical services of the highest level, free of charge, to Gozitan and Maltese citizens, while remaining committed to improving the conditions of employees who offer a service of excellence," Minister Abela said.
He thanked all hospital employees for their hard work and dedication in fulfilling their duty so that patients who are in need receive the utmost quality of care. He concluded by stating that he looks forward "to the development of two new operating theatres in this hospital which will offer more space for more interventions".
