The PN is offering a long-term vision that can deliver real benefits across multiple sectors of Malta's economy, including the vital tourism industry, PN Leader Bernard Grech said during a visit to the Excelsior Hotel, held as part of the Party's activities marking Workers' Day 2025.
Bernard Grech drew attention to the Labour Government's continued silence on how it plans to address the crisis resulting from new tariffs announced by the US Government and the impact these will have on Malta.
The PN leader stated that these tariffs will directly affect a number of industries and their workers, particularly in the tourism sector. "Yet, Robert Abela has remained completely absent on the matter and has offered no reassurance to Maltese and Gozitan workers about what action will be taken to mitigate the risk of rising prices in Malta. Instead, Abela is leading a Government without a political direction, offering no peace of mind to workers and showing no strategy or vision to attract or support investment in the country."
About tourism, Bernard Grech reiterated the PN's commitment to this key sector, stating that a new Nationalist Government would ensure the necessary investment is made for continued growth. He also praised the private sector's efforts, highlighting the significant investments made by operators to continuously improve the quality of service. He emphasized the importance of investing in workers, who form the backbone of Malta's largest economic sector.
Grech said that Robert Abela's Government lacks the political will to lead and only a new Nationalist Government can take the clear and necessary decisions the country needs.
During the visit, the PN Leader met with management and staff of the Excelsior, which employs around 400 people, both full-time and part-time. He was shown around the hotel by General Manager Norbert Grixti and discussed topics including work-life balance, the current state of the hospitality sector, tourism trends and the challenges faced by hotels like the Excelsior. Since opening in 2007, the hotel has become one of Malta's top five-star establishments, with the company's owners continuing to invest in enhancing their product.
Grech was accompanied by Shadow Minister for Tourism Mario de Marco, Shadow Minister for the Economy and Enterprise Jerome Caruana Cilia and Shadow Minister for Cultural Heritage, Arts and Culture Julie Zahra.
