Currently, at the Picnic Area in Ta’ Qali—an open space that hosts thousands of Maltese families every weekend, important regeneration work is underway that will further enhance the quality of life for families.
Throughout a visit made by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, accompanied by Jason Micallef, the Head of the Section managing the Ta' Qali National Park, as well as the architect in charge, Nadia Curmi, the significant works currently progressing at a rapid pace around the area, have been observed.
With an investment of €1 million, the most important works currently underway include the removal of the existing fence, which will be replaced with a more secure fence to ensure the safety and well-being of Maltese families who visit the area. The works will also include the laying of new material for the ground as well as new soft furniture for the surroundings. In recent weeks, the reconstruction of two sanitary facilities have also been completed, along with the digging of trenches for new water and drainage services.
Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia explained that the Ta’ Qali National Park, which in recent years has grown from 220,000 square meters to 450,000 square meters of open, green space, is a living example of Vision Malta 2050—a clear, long-term vision, launched earlier this week.
“One of the main pillars of Vision Malta 2050 is the Smart Use of Land and Sea, a crucial pillar for our country, and the Ta’ Qali project is driven by this principle.” Farrugia recalled that just a few years ago, instead of the Ta’ Qali National Park, an illegal factory occupied this space. “Today, we have the largest green lung for Maltese families because we have learned how to utilise this space in the best possible way.”
Jason Micallef explained how the works at Ta’ Qali National Park are ongoing "because we want the largest capital project to be enjoyed holistically by Maltese and Gozitan families throughout the entire year."
In addition to the works on the regeneration of the Picnic Area, the final works are also ongoing on a multi-level underground car park adjacent to the Concert Area.
These works are part of one of the largest capital projects ever undertaken in our country, further confirming that Ta’ Qali is once again preparing for a summer full of activities for Maltese families and the record number of tourists visiting our country.
