Archbishop Charles Scicluna led the Palm Sunday mass this morning at the St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
During his homily, Scicluna focused on three Bible phrases inspired by the Gospel, according to St Luke. "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34); "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise" (Lk 23:43); and "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit" (Lk 23:46).
Through these phrases, Scicluna explained how the people see the heart of Jesus and the immense power of His love. Scicluna said that not only does Jesus not condemn people for their shortcomings and sins, but he also asks the Father, God to forgive them and offers them Paradise if they repent.
Through the final phrase, the Archbishop said: "We never pretend that we are the owners of our life, or of someone else's life. But to have the deep humility and strong wisdom to repeat Jesus' cherished words to the Father: 'Into your hands I commend my spirit.' My life is not mine to take into my own hands, nor should I take someone else's life in the name of some false compassion, but rather, we entrust it into God's hands," Scicluna said.
