A worker has died after he was crushed between some products and machinery inside a shipping container, the police said on Monday.

The accident happened at around 6pm in a factory in Triq is-Santwarju tal-Hlas in Qormi.

The victim was a 34-year-old Nigerian man, with police saying that he was unloading a shipping container when he was crushed between the products he was unloading and some machinery.

A medical team was called on site, but the man was certified as dead at the factory.

Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is leading an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing in conjunction with the Occupational Health & Safety Authority.
