Prime Minister Robert Abela on Tuesday visited four Palestinian children who were brought over from Gaza to receive medical treatment in Malta.

Accompanied by his wife Lydia Abela, as well as Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri and Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela, the Prime Minister visited the Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers building in Hal Far to meet with the children from Gaza.

The Prime Minister also spoke to the families of the children, and the Office of the Prime Minister stated that Abela encouraged the children and told them that they are welcome in Malta after the suffering brought on by the war.

Abela spoke of how Malta will always continue to push its position in favour of peace and the permanent cessation of hostilities. He also reiterated that Malta will continue to advocate for a two-state solution, which he said in the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador to Malta, Fadi Hanania.

Lydia Abela presented the four children with gifts from the annual 'Gift with Love' initiative, which the OPM commented is a result of the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people.

The OPM said that the children arrived in Malta in the early morning hours of Thursday, coming from the Middle East, in order to receive medical treatment at the Mater Dei Hospital. It added that this was after coordinated work under an initiative operated under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism with the participation of the Civil Protection Department of Malta.
