Infrastructure Malta is building a flyover as part of a project that seeks to make the traffic flow easier in the area.

In a statement, Infrastructure Malta said "a minor accident that occurred earlier today on Triq MA Vassalli", without mentioning the collapse of the scaffolding.

"One of the workers involved sustained minor injuries but is fully responsive and receiving appropriate medical attention. As a precautionary measure, the northbound lane of Triq MA Vassalli has been temporarily closed to allow for the necessary assessments and to ensure the safety of all those involved.

Road users are advised to follow the diversions currently in place, directing traffic to Triq D'Argens and Xatt l-Imsida, the agency said. An ongoing investigation is taking place due to health and safety reasons to ensure the circumstances of the accident are fully understood and that proper procedures are being followed.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and urge drivers to proceed with caution and follow all signs and directions from traffic authorities. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops. Infrastructure Malta remains committed to ensuring the safety of both workers and the public."
