The National Drug Addiction Unit (NDAU) has been launched. This Unit will strengthen the work of professionals in gathering scientific information that will serve as a guideline for policies related to this subject.

The NDAU was established with the mandate of monitoring, reporting, and contributing to national strategies that address issues related to drug addiction.

The Unit's legal framework consists of responsibilities and governance structures that support more evidence-based work - work that is scientifically independent and compliant with the highest standards in this field.

This was announced by the Minister for Social Policy and Children's Rights, Michael Falzon during a press conference in which information was shared on how this Unit will be strengthening the holistic work against drug addiction.

"We must continue to convey the message that addiction takes you out of control," Minister Falzon stated, "As a government, we are committed to continuing to educate, prevent and coordinate a policy that addresses drug addiction."

The Chairperson of the NDAU, Prof. Richard Muscat, explained that the National Drug Addiction Unit will be providing a more holistic picture of drug use in the country, as well as a structured response to addiction. Muscat described that through this Unit, the country will have more room to implement further reforms on this matter.
