Knowledge about diversity brings us closer together

During an activity organised by Missio Malta at San Andrea School, children of different ages had the opportunity to learn about the value of diversity and the importance of appreciating one another. The activity marked the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, as part of a continuous programme of similar events that Missio Malta prepares to raise awareness about its missionary work.

Robert Farrugia, Head of Communications and Fundraising at Missio Malta, said that this programme of activities is central to Missio's mission, as it brings the extensive work done by Missio volunteers around the world to young students and inspires them to continue along this path.

"Through various initiatives involving the appreciation of culture, art, food, and games, we lifted the curtain onto a wide and beautiful world in which Missio Malta operates across three different continents. In fact, our students were able to learn about the customs and beauty of different cultures in Africa, Asia, and South America, through games and interesting information prepared especially for them."

Nancy Caruana, the project coordinator, added that this outreach helps students appreciate one another more. "In a globalised world, it is important to learn more about each other and from each other, so that we can appreciate what makes us different but also more interesting. We are all different, and there is much beauty in each of us that is worth appreciating, and that helps us understand one another," Nancy emphasised.

The activity at San Andrea School was just the latest in a series of diversity- themed events that Missio Malta organises throughout the year in schools across Malta and Gozo.

These activities include informative exhibitions about the culture of the places where Missio operates, interactive games that encourage children to learn about local customs, as well as information about food and customs.
