Three collective agreements affecting three different sectors of workers were signed, during the Public Service Expo Village 2025, held at the MFCC in Ta' Qali.
These include employees in the Public Service within the ICT Stream, social workers in the Public Service, and employees of the MCESD (Malta Council for Economic and Social Development), a government statement said Friday.
The collective agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Principal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana.
The sectoral agreement for the ICT Stream will further improve the employment conditions of Public Service workers operating in this field.
Employees in this sector will benefit from improvements in the grade from which a worker typically begins their career.
This will be accompanied by a grading structure based on continuous training that offers a career path for those who serve in this area, it said.
In addition, the Public Service Institute has launched a scheme to attract and provide opportunities for students in this field to continue strengthening this sector within the Public Service.
Through this agreement, around 270 employees will see improvements in existing allowances as well as the introduction of new allowances based on grade and level of responsibility.
The collective agreement for social workers employed in the Public Service continues to invest in this profession, where workers assist the most vulnerable individuals in areas such as education (with students and families), mental health (for those who use these services), elderly care, and the Employee Support Programme for public administration employees, among others, the statement said.
Around 40 employees covered by this agreement will benefit from improvements to their career structure, so that the level of this profession continues to improve, in line with similar professions working with vulnerable individuals.
This will be achieved through enhancements to the grading structure, existing allowances, and the introduction of new allowances. A key new element in this agreement is a mechanism to encourage students to pursue this career and eventually serve within the Public Service.
It said that this aims to make the social work field within the Public Service more attractive in today's society and to inspire students to choose this profession for the benefit of our community.
