The government has re-signed and extended its social agreement with Fondazzjoni mid-Dlam għad-Dawl.

This agreement sets to strengthen the services that help prisoners reintegrate into their local communities while supporting their families, and especially their children, a government statement read.

This agreement was signed in the presence of Social Police Minister Michael Falzon, who expressed satisfaction that these services shall continue being funded.

Through this agreement, a new aftercare service will be funded to monitor the progress and challenges faced by ex-prisoners.

Minister Falzon said that through this, "we are providing assistance so that those who have made mistakes are still granted the chance to move forwards."

"We have had many success stories and I am convinced that such assistance makes a difference," Minister Falzon said.

This year marks the 30th anniversary since the founding of Fondazzjoni mid-Dlam għad-Dawl. Over the past three decades, this foundation has assisted in the strengthening of residential programmes, including services such as "Dar Bla Ħitan," "L-Ewwel Kenn" and "Ġieħ u Tama" that help the families of prisoners.

Official statistics illustrate that over 2,600 individuals have resorted to such therapy services in just the past three years.
