The European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) is in Malta for a three-day official visit, following an initiative by Maltese MEP Daniel Attard, the MEP’s office said in a statement on Tuesday.
The visit will focus on key challenges and opportunities related to sustainable transport, connectivity, the future of Gozo, and a long-term tourism strategy for the Maltese Islands.
During the mission, the delegation will meet with several Government Ministers, Members of Parliament, and major industry stakeholders. The programme also includes on-site visits to key EU-funded infrastructure projects, including the shore-to-ship energy system at the Grand Harbour, the Marsa Junction, and the Kirkop Tunnel and Intersection Project – all of which reflect the country’s significant investment in transport and infrastructure.
Committee members will engage in discussions on EU transport legislation, maritime decarbonisation, intermodal connectivity, sustainable tourism, and regional development in Gozo.
MEP Daniel Attard stated: “This visit is a concrete opportunity for policymakers and local stakeholders to engage directly with Members of the European Parliament and to showcase the realities we face on the ground in Malta. I am particularly proud that this marks the first official delegation from the European Parliament to visit Gozo – which remains a top priority in my work in the European Parliament.”
