Johann Joseph Fenech has been promoted to the post of Assistant Commissioner within the Malta Police Force, the Ministry for Home Affairs stated on Wednesday.
Assistant Commissioner Fenech, formerly a superintendent, will be in charge of the police's information technology and data management section, the Ministry said. It said that Fenech joined the police force as an inspector in 2004, and then joined the anti-drug squad in 2008. It continued that he was promoted to superintendent in 2018 and given leadership of the police's vice and anti-drug squads. It added that he has been leading the gender-based violence and domestic violence unit of the police force for the past four years.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that this appointment will continue to complement the strengthening of the police force with the aim of providing citizens with better service and making Malta increasingly safer. He said that this appointment will be strengthening part of the important work carried out by the police, and continued that the government is committed to continue investing in the police so that society can continue to benefit.
Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa described Fenech's appointment as Assistant Commissioner as another step towards a modern and professional force, the Ministry said. Gafa spoke of how Fenech is a graduate with a Bachelor's degree in statistics and informatics and is therefore expected to continue leading the section of information technology and data management towards digital information.
