There have been 100 people in prison and a total of 177 children under the age of fourteen who have made use of the visiting facility in Marsa intended for residents of the Corradino Correctional Facility to be able to meet with their children outside of the prison, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri stated on Monday.
Minister Camilleri said this as he was replying to a question posed by Nationalist Party MP Darren Carabott, who asked the Home Affairs Minister to provide a breakdown of how many prisoners were allowed to use the Marsa facility to meet their children during the years 2023, 2024, and 2025. Carabott also asked Camilleri to state the total number of children who were allowed to meet their parents.
Going over the numbers year-by-year, Camilleri said that 42 people in prison made use of the Marsa facility in 2023, with the total children under the age of fourteen who did the same being 73. He continued that the number of people in prison who used the facility in 2024 was 39, with the number of children being 74. He added that the number of people in prison who made use of the facility up until May 2025 was 19, with the number of children being 30.
